Privacy Policy
Petra is a voice-first thought partner for work, operated by Metanoia Labs, Inc. (“Metanoia Labs,” “we,” “us”). This policy explains what we collect when you use Petra, how we use it, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, email asare@workpetra.com.
What we collect
- Your account. Your name and email address, from the sign-in method you choose (Google, Apple, or email).
- What you tell Petra. When you talk or type with Petra, we process your voice audio and the words you say or write, along with the working context you build — the companies, projects, people, tasks, and notes you share.
- Calendar (only if you connect it). If you connect a Google or Microsoft calendar, Petra reads your events to plan around your day, and adds the time you ask it to hold. You can disconnect it at any time.
- Your contacts (only if you allow it). To show which people you know are already on Petra, the app sends the email addresses and phone numbers in your contacts to our server, which compares them with Petra members who can be found and sends back only the matches. We don’t keep your contacts. On iPhone, the app may check again now and then to tell you when someone you know joins; the list of who it has already shown you stays on your phone.
- Your phone number (only if you add it). If you add your mobile number, we text you a code to confirm it’s yours, then keep it so people who already have your number can find you on Petra (you can turn this off with “People on Petra can find me”), and so we can text you reminders if you turn them on.
- Usage and device data. Basic log and device information — the pages you use, timestamps, browser or app version — to run and improve the service and keep it secure.
- Payment information. Payments are handled by our payment processor. We do not see or store your card number.
- Recordings of your check-ins (only if you agree to it). We don’t keep the sound of your talks with Petra. We only keep a recording if you have told us you agree to it. Those recordings are made only on the web and in the desktop app, and only our team can listen to them. We will only use a clip of one, for example on our website, if you agree to that use. Ask us and we will stop recording or delete what we have.
- Crash reports (desktop app only). If the Mac or Windows app hits an error, it sends a report of what went wrong (the error, and the app’s version) so we can fix it.
How AI processing works
Petra uses a third-party AI provider to understand you and respond. To do that, we send your audio and text to that provider (for voice and language), which processes it to generate Petra’s responses. The provider acts as our service provider and is contractually bound to use the data only to provide the service. We ask for your consent before your first voice session, and you can withdraw it at any time.
Our AI provider doesn’t use what we send it to train its models. It may keep it for a limited time to run the service and to watch for abuse (by default, up to 30 days). When Petra looks something up for you, she uses the same provider’s web search.
How we use your information
- To provide Petra — to hold a conversation, remember your work over time, and produce your plate and plans.
- To personalize what Petra says, using what you’ve told her before.
- To maintain, secure, debug, and improve the service.
- To support you. A few people on our small team can see your account and how you use Petra, and can read your conversations when they need to help you, fix a problem or improve how Petra responds. Other members never see any of it.
- To communicate with you about your account and the product.
- To comply with the law and enforce our terms.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run Petra, and only for that purpose:
- An AI provider — processing your audio and text so Petra can understand you and respond.
- Hosting and database providers — running the app and website, storing your account and what you tell Petra, and signing you in.
- Google, Apple or Microsoft, only as you choose — signing in with Google or Apple, a Google or Microsoft calendar you connect, and notifications on your Android phone or iPhone.
- A text message provider — the code that confirms your number, and reminders if you turn them on.
- A payment processor — card payments for membership. It holds your card details; we never see or store them.
- An email provider — sending you email about your account and membership.
- A crash reporting service — error reports from the desktop app.
- A code hosting service — the desktop app’s downloads and updates.
- Our team’s private workspace — where we work together, including on feedback you send us.
Each one sees only what it needs to do its job. For the names of the companies we use, email asare@workpetra.com.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or in connection with a business transfer.
The website
The website at workpetra.com has no analytics, advertising or tracking tools. Its fonts load from a web font service, which sees your browser’s address as it does for any website that uses it. If you leave your email to claim a founding spot or join the waitlist, we keep it, with anything you tell us about why, to contact you about joining.
Text messages
Petra only texts your own confirmed number, and only with the code that confirms it and, if you turn them on in Settings, your check-in reminders (at most two a day). Petra never texts your contacts. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop reminder texts at any time, or HELP for help.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Your consent to receive texts, and the record of it, are never shared with any third party, except the providers that send the messages for us.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the service and meet legal obligations. You can ask us to delete your account and its data — see below.
Your choices
- Access or correct your information — much of it is editable in the app, and you can email us for the rest.
- Withdraw AI consent at any time from Settings; voice features will stop working until you grant it again.
- Disconnect a calendar (Google or Microsoft) at any time, in Settings.
- Remove your phone number at any time, in Settings. We delete it.
- Stop text reminders by replying STOP, or in Settings.
- Delete your account and associated data in the app (Settings → Delete my account), or by emailing asare@workpetra.com. How to delete your account.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your data and to notify you if something goes wrong as required by law.
Children
Petra is for adults and is not directed to anyone under 18. We don’t knowingly collect information from children.
Where your data is processed
Petra is operated from the United States, and your information is processed there and by the providers listed above. If you use Petra from outside the U.S., you understand your information is processed in the U.S.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Petra grows. When we do, we’ll change the “last updated” date above, and we’ll let you know if the changes are significant.
